Saturday, October 2, 2004 - News
On Saturday, I attended the first session of the Ed 436: Technology Across the Curriculum course that I am taking as part of the MAT Flex program at Pacific University. That's why I now find myself blogging.
After class I went to work. I was fortunate in being able to get a straight shift on Saturdays for the next three months. I am a bus driver for TriMet, and with my low seniority, I mostly get split shifts (3 hours or so during the morning rush hour, and 3 hours or so during the evening rush hour). I am still part-time, working about 6 hours per day, 5 days per week. After each shift, I write a few comments in a journal, to note if anything unusual happened, in case an issue comes up later, and I need to jog my memory.
On Saturdays I drive the number #14 Hawthorne, from 6:21 PM to 12:11 AM. It always amazes me how many people ride the #14 on a Saturday night. This is a frequent service line with busses every 15 minutes on Saturday night until 12:05 AM Sunday morning, and two more after that with a last bus starting from downtown at 1:30 AM.
This Saturday was busy as usual. Early on I helped a guy who got off a #14 in front of me, and realized too late, that he had left his bike on the bike rack on front of the bus. Apparently this was his most prized possession. I called dispatch and they confirmed with the driver of the #14 in front of me that the bike was on the bus. I was able to inform the bike owner when the other bus would be at 48th and Hawthorne inbound where he would meet it. He got off at 48th, happy.
Had a few drunks later, one particularly talkative (too much information!). They were all happy Hawthorne drinkers as opposed to the types I pick up in Oldtown, who are much more advanced in their alcoholism.
No problems, good shift.
